Belay Carabiners

What is a belay carabiner?

Realistically any carabiner can be used for belay.  At the Climbing Shop, we have decided to make this category consist of any carabiner with a capture that stops it from rotating once it is clipped into your belay loop.  The capture methods vary, but they all stop carabiner rotation so the carabiner cannot be cross-loaded.

Auto-locking

The Edelrid Bulletproof Belay wins the prize here.  Its simple but effective auto-lock makes taking people on and off belay a breeze.  As the name suggests, this thing is designed to last.  The steel insert on the wear portion of the carabiner dramatically increases wear resistance.

Traditional Screwgate

The DMM Ceros is our favourite here.  Typical DMM awesomeness.  Super sleek well finished design.  The screw mechanism is super smooth, not loose so it rattles and is not to tight that you can't give it a quick spin to make it go from one end to the other.  There is also a notch on the spine of the carabiner that stops your belay device from rotating around the bend.
