The Revolver's pulley wheel reduces friction on ropes moving through the carabiner. Placed where the pitch changes direction, it reduces rope drag and makes upward movement easier.
The Revolver can be used in an improvised hauling system to help your second over a crux, haul kit bags, or rescue your partner from a crevasse. Where normal carabiners in these systems cause energy to be lost as friction, the Revolver's pulley wheel makes hauling easier by converting more of your energy into movement.
A Revolver on your rack lets you reduce rope drag and make efficient mechanical advantage systems without the need for additional devices.
The Climbing Shop's Tip To Help Increase Rope Life
If you do a lot of redpointing and end up cutting your rope down often. More often than not the point at which you need to cut your rope down is about an arm's length (plus the amount of rope in the knot). The reason for this is twofold. It is a combination of your repeated grabbing of the rope with chalked hands and the rope running over the edge of the carabiner as you fall off. The combination of the abrasive chalk and dirt on your sheath and the edge of your carabiner increases the wear on the sheath of your rope. If you replace the quickdraw carabiner with a DMM Revolver on the crux or point you always fall off on you will greatly reduce the wear process and can increase the life of your rope. Obviously, be aware this can vastly reduce the friction in the system which could lead to larger falls (for example - I would not use it if the regular falling point was the first quickdraw).
